The system is for the repetition transport of a set number of workpieces of magnetisable material at a time from a bulk store to a discharge point, using a lifting magnet. At the loading point, the magnet is energised by a heavier current than is necessary to lift the set quantity, thus picking up an excess amount, which it then lifts to a setting position above the loading point. The energising current is then reduced to a value corresponding to the set quantity and the excess items drop free until the desired number only remain. The current is then increased again and the magnet with its calibrated load transported to the discharge point, where the current is switched off to dump it.
