Machine part absolute movement distance measurement - using wear and dirt resistant transmitter, receiver and moving probe attached to monitored machine part

A device for absolute measurement of movement distances on machines, e.g. on machine tools, is designed to use simple robust measurement parts attached to the machine resistant to dirt and friction damage and also to reduce the hitherto relatively high cost of such measurement devices. A transmitte (11) is place at one of the movement path (A-B) and a receiver (12) at the other. A receiver probe (13) attached to the moving machine part to be monitored detects the waves from the transmitter as the machine part moves along the path. The transmitter, receiver, and probe are connected to an electronic evaluation and control circuit (II). The system is suitable for numerically controlled machines.
