<p>1420844 Feeding sheets PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd 26 Feb 1973 [29 Feb 1972] 9278/73 Heading B8R Sheets are separated from the top of a pile by a device which momentarily moves each uppermost sheet in a direction opposite to the withdrawal direction before moving the sheet in the withdrawal direction. As shown an endless friction separator belt 22 is trained about driven pulley 20 and idler pulley 18, both pulleys being supported in a frame 13. The shaft 14 of the pulley 20 is connectable to a drive motor shaft 17 through an electromagnetic clutch 15, and to an electromagnetic brake 16. A spring clutch 6 is provided between the armature disc 7 of the brake and the shaft 14. For forward movement of the uppermost sheet 1 towards feed rollers 5 the clutch 15 is engaged and brake 16 disengaged. For reverse movement, the brake 16 is engaged and the relative movement between the shaft 14 and brake is taken up by the spring clutch 6; the clutch 15 then being disengaged to allow the clutch 6 to rotate the shaft in the reverse direction. These movements of the separator are stated to return a second sheet which has been dragged along with a first sheet, to the pile before removal of this second sheet.</p> |
