PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF ETHYLENE-BUTADIENE COPOLYMERS

1423016 Olefin-conjugated diene copolymerization catalyst SNAMPROGETTI SpA 14 Dec 1973 [20 Dec 1972 16 Oct 1973] 58153/73 Heading C3P Monoolefins and conjugated dienes are copolymerized in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) a vanadium or vanadyl halide, (b) an organoaluminium- or hydridealuminiumhalide, and (c) an aluminium compound containing an aluminium-nitrogen bond, e.g. an aluminium trisamide, an aluminium hydride amide or a polyiminoalane. The process may be carried out in a diluent and in the presence of hydrogen; the diene units may be in the trans- 1,4 configuration. The examples refer to ethylene-butadiene copolymerization using (a) VOCl 3 or VCl 4 , (b) AlEtCl 2 or AlEt 2 Cl and (c) Al(NMe 2 ) 3 , AlH(NMe 2 ) 2 , AlH 2 NMe 2 or a poly- N - isopropyliminoalane containing chlorine atoms.
