Novel N,N-dimethyl-O-(imidazol-5-yl)carbamates of the formula <IMAGE> in which R denotes alkyl, dialkylamino, alkenyl or aralkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety or aryl, R<1> denotes hydrogen, alkyl, alkylthio or alkenylthio and R<2> denotes hydrogen, phenyl, alkyl or alkenyl, are prepared. These compounds are obtained by reacting corresponding 5-hydroxyimidazole derivatives of alkali metal salts, alkaline earth metal salts or ammonium salts thereof with an N,N-dimethylaminocarbamoyl chloride in the presence of a solvent or diluent. The novel compounds are used as active ingredients in insecticides. |
