1467018 Low alloy steel casting SULZER BROS Ltd 8 Oct 1974 [8 Oct 1973] 43531/74 Heading C7A A low alloy steel casting having the following properties: - Notch toughness at room temperature # 30 mkp/cm<SP>2</SP> Nil Ductility Temperature # - 20‹C. and having the following composition:- The casting may be obtained using a 2 slag process in a basic arc furnace, deoxidizing the melt, casting and heat-treating at 1100‹C or above to take substantially all the carbides and carbonitrides into solution, water quenching, heating to at least 960‹C and oil quenching to produce a ferrite-pearlite structure and heating to at least 600‹C and cooling in still air to precipitate at least part of the vanadium and niobium as finely divided carbides and/or carbonitrides. The casting may be used in the construction of large electrical generators and in vehicle and reactor components. |
