Control of fungi on seeds with (4,4)-azo-dipyridine - or its new acid addition salts, esp. for control of Helminthosporium on cereals

Fungi which infect seeds and grains are controlled by treatment with 4,4'-azodipyridine (I) or its acid salts of formula (Ia) (where A is acid of Ka>1 x 10-6; and p is no. of H atoms in A having Ka>1 x 10-6). Salts (Ia) are new; specifically 4,4'-azodipyridinium 1,2-benzenedicarboxylate. (I) and (Ia) are specifically used for control of Helminthosporium species of cereal grains; i.e. as replacement for Hg-contg. cpds. The rate of application is 10-500, esp. 20-250g per kg.
