The spindle of the earthing device is guided in a yoke and has edges contacting the rail. The edges on the upper bevelled surface of the rail root can be forced apart by the spindle, whose forward end is provided with a plate, carrying pivotally a cam with a edge as in 2425246. The plate (4) also pivots on the yoke (2), and is engaged by the spindle (9) at a point (16) which is further distanced from the plate pivoting axis (5) than the pivoting axis of the plate from the cam (6) pivoting axis (8). Preferably the cam (7) protrudes over the inside of one yoke shank. The inside of the other shank is provided with the other edge (21).
