The guard rail consists of a support fixed between the floor (12) and ceiling (14) of the building under construction and a barrier (18) fixed to the support (16). The support (16) consists of two parallel feet on two runners of a bottom vertical upright (26) pref. adjustably fixed to the cross-piece (27) joining the two feet (24) and a top, slanting upright (28) fixed to the top of the first upright (26). The top of the slanting upright (28) has a balance (32) hinged in a roughly right-angled axis to the plane of the feet (24) and the bottom upright (26). The opposite ends of the balance (32) have two runners (36) by which the upright (28) rests against the ceiling (14). The barrier (18) pref. consists of a central part (46) joined to the support frame (16) and two guards (48, 50) hinged to it.
