The inlet for the breaking-down fluid, which carries the cellulose chips in a column at a relatively higher temp., has its exit opening positioned at a gap below the outlet of the impregnating vessel. This gap is equal to or greater than half the diameter of the processing vessel. An equal dispersion of the breaking-down fluid is passed through the chips column without a short circuit in the flow pattern, to the outlet at the upper end of the processing vessel. The fluid flow passes out of the outlet free of chips from the vessel without requiring filtering. The design prevents blockages as there is no clogging effect from the material, so that the equipment requires less maintenance and cleaning.
