A connecting device (19), which is to be arranged in a housing (4), is used for connecting the two cables (1 and 3). The trough-shaped housing (4), which is to be closed by a cover (5), is provided for filling with an insulating fluid. The bushings (13) for the metal-sheathed cable (1) rest in a moisture-tight manner on the metal sheath and on the trough (4), and the bushings (18, 20, 21) for the plastic cable (3) have a bush (20) which projects into the interior of the trough (4), impedes the passage of the insulating fluid to the cable insulation, and consists of insulating material. The trough (4) has two end walls (8, 9) which carry the bushings which are required for the insertion of the wires. One of the two end surfaces (8, 9) is provided with bushings which are arranged in a triangular manner. All the wires of multi-wire cables can thus be connected to one another in a single housing and the space in the housing can be filled with insulating fluid so that the amount of space required can be reduced. A screening grid (6) in the plastic trough (4) can effectively carry out the screening. In order to reduce the assembly time, the cover (5) is removable so that the wires can be connected in the open trough. <IMAGE>
