Activating soln. for soldering bimetallic materials - contg. zinc ions, ferric ions and organic or inorganic complexing agent

A solder activating soln. for surface activation of bi-metallic materials partic. Mn and Fe-Ni alloys is an aq. soln. contg. Zn or Zn-contg. ions. Fe (III) ions, and an organic or inorganic complexing agent. The process is pref. used for depositing a layer of Ni electrolytically. The soln. contains complexing agent for stabilisation e.g. ammonia, and Fe (III) cpds. as activators, e.g. Fe sulphate. For best results, soln. contains 1-4.5 mol./l, alkali hydroxide, 0.1-0.3 mol./l. Zn or Zn ions, 0.1-0.5 mol./l. complexing agent, and 0.005-0.03 mol./l Fe (III) ions. Used for soldering bimetal strips to other components e.g. in thermal switches. Process allows simple prepn. of difficult materials.
