<p>Method for applying a lorry tyre blank to a tyre building drum is carried out with gradual expansion of the blank while fitting it over the moving drum. The blank is held, mechanically expanded, set in rotation and applied by its front edge to the drum which rotates at higher speed. Excess pressure is created gradually within the blank. After the blank has been entrained by the drum, it is screwed onto the drum into its nominal position at excess pressure. Appts. includes a carriage which moves relative to the drum with an expander assembly coaxial with the drum and bearing cantilever arms. The latter form a variable working dia. within the assembly, and bear at their ends driven rollers parallel to each other.</p> |
