An elastomeric reinforced matl. which may be used in a sandwich layer for tubes and belts is made by forming a continuous belt by impregnating in a matrix, a bundle of parallel filaments as they are unwound from a set of bobbins. This matrix has a stripping factor of >=3.15 KN/m pref. >5 KN/m when tested, a tensile strength of >=100 N/test piece, pref. 130 N/piece, and a compressive strength of >=4 MN/m2 at 100% and >8 MN/-m2 at 200%. The ratio of surface area of the matrix to that of the filaments, in cross section is >=1. This matrix is a plastisol such as PVC or contains nitrile rubber and the binder consists of resin precursors which form an aldehyde resin. These resin precursors consist of an aromatic hydroxy cpd. and a cpd. which gives methyl gps. on heating, pref. resorcinol and hexamethylene tetramine. |
