Heat shrinking plastics sleeves onto articles - on turret on which sleeves are transferred from mandrel to articles

Heat shrinkable sleeves are carried on mandrels spaced about a rotary turret and base articles are carried in chucks on a carriage with a stripper device which removes the sleeves from the mandrels onto the article as the turret and carriage move through a transfer station prior to movemnt through a final heating device. A narrow band like pattern of heat is emitted from a heating device mounted adjacent the path of movement of hte articles adjacent the transfer station and in the direction of the heating device so as to heat a band like region of the sleeve to shrink an intermediate annular band like portion of the sleeve to hold th sleeve on the article during movement to the heating device. Used for providing a heat shrunk sleeve on glass bottles. Provides a means of securing the sleeves againt displacement as the articles are fed to the main heat shrink oven. Pref. sleeve can be of foamed polystyrene or foamed polyethylene formed from a uniaxially oriented strip (34) on the mandrel.
