The plant consists of a contact cooler, an absorber or scrubber and a pH regulator; the contract cooler being formed by a vertical vessel with a butterfly valve regulating the feed of the flue gases. At its upper end there is a sprinkling arrangement for washing the hot gases with effluent which is drained away at the bottom. A pH regulator monitoring the drain fluid controls the servo for a valve in the gas feed line. The installation takes up little room and is controlled automatically. The content of organic impurities in the liq. is reduced at the same time as the alkalinity is neutralised, and sulphur and dust are removed from the flue gases. Method is cheaper and less dangerous to health than using hydrochloric acid.
