Method is provided for mfg. a magnetic head for a tape recorder, sound film appts., etc., with a magnetisable core, inductive resistors and an insulating core holder. After mounting the core on the core holder, an electrically conductive paramagnetic or diamagnetic layer of given thickness is deposited on both the core and the core holder. Pref. the gap-defining surfaces are first lapped, then the layer is deposited, using an electrically conductive magnetically insulating material which also acts as gap-filling material. It may be applied by vapour deposition, and consists of Al, Ag or Au, or Cr, Pt, Ta, W, Be or Cu or an alloy of Be and Cu. The method provides a conductive connection between core holder and core plates with a precise ohmic resistance.
