The component is for weaving into a mat in order to secure a concrete block. It has one portion woven into the mat, and another for attachment to it, the second one extending along the side of the block furthest from the mat. The woven-in component (3) can have one or more eyes (4) through which the second component (5) is passed, the latter being in the form of wire or rope with lateral protrusions at the free end to prevent it shaking loose. The design allows the woven-in component to be shaped to suit requirements and allow the mat to be rolled up for transport to site, in addition to which the concrete block can be prefabricated.
