<p>1485749 Packaging glass articles under reduced pressure HOYA GLASS WORKS Ltd 8 Aug 1974 [13 Aug 1973] 34975/74 Heading B8C Polished glass articles 1, e.g. optical glasses and glass lenses, are protected against tarnishing by being sealed in an envelope 3 of an aluminium foil/synthetic resin film laminate under a pressure of less than 10<SP>-2</SP> mn. Hg. The synthetic resin may be nylon and the laminate may comprise three layers. The glass articles are contained in a gas permeable plastics container 2 within the envelope 3. The packaged glass articles may be stored at a temperature of between -10‹ and 50‹ C. The glass articles are protected in this manner between the operations of polishing and coating the articles. An apparatus for evacuating and sealing the envelope 3 comprises a vacuum pump and line 8 and 5, respectively, and heat sealing elements 9, one of which is carried on a cover 7 of the apparatus.</p> |
