The movable partition (2) is intended for separating fluids (3, 4) in a vessel (1) so as to permit one fluid to displace the other whilst moving the partition. The partition consists of one or more pleated or bellows-shaped bags which follow the movement of the contents (4) without their material being stretched. The peripheral rim of the bag (2) may be secured to the inner wall of the vessel so that, as the vessel is filled or emptied, it folds or unfolds along this wall whilst being supported thereby. The bag may be half the height of the vessel and secured halfway up the vessel wall so that, as the vessel is filled or emptied, it can extend upwards or downwards.
