Antibacterial substituted azetidinones

Substituted azetidinones having antibacterial activity and pharmaceutically acceptable salts and esters thereof and pharmaceutical compositions containing an antibacterially effective amount of such an azetidinone. A representative compound is methyl 3-(2'-hydroxyethyl)-7-oxo-1-aza-4-oxabicyclo[3,2,0]-heptane-2-carboxyl ate. The daily dosage is between 50 and 6,000 mg.
