N-(2-Amino-3,5-dibromobenzyl)-N-methylcyclohexylamine of the formula I <IMAGE> and its acid addition salts are prepared by a novel process in which an ester of 2-amino-3,5-dibromobenzyl alcohol, whose amino group can be protected, is reacted with N-methylcyclohexylamine, any amino protective groups are eliminated, and the product of the process is converted, where appropriate, into an acid addition salt. The compound of the formula I effectively dissolves mucus from the respiratory tract and is used to produce cough-suppressant medicaments. |
