The lifting hook is used for handling pipes and tubes and is equipped with a locking catch. This has a cam profile contacting the outer surface of the pipe and has a jamming effect if the pipe attempts to slip. The hook (1) is cut from plate and has a lifting eye (2). Its free end has an extended lip (3), providing a deep throat entering the bore of the pipe (4). The catch (5) is U-shaped, pivoting (6) on the hook body and fitting over it. The lower corners of the catch form cam surfaces (8) pulled down (f) by friction to hold the pipe firmly.
