<p>Crystalliser positioning and displacing apparatus includes a crystalliser with a suspension shaft and a movable carriage with grippers to engage the suspension shaft. At least two wedge-shaped abutments are provided on the movable carriage on the same size as the grippers. Wedge shaped lugs are provided on the crystalliser in alignment with the wedge shaped abutments. When the crystalliser is retained on the movable carriage the wedge shaped lugs abut the wedge-shaped abutments. The wedge shaped abutments and lugs are situated below the suspension shaft of the crystalliser. The appts. is of relatively simple structure, and is convenient and reliable in operation. The wedge shaped abutments and lugs ensure that the crystalliser is retained on the carriage without incorporation of additional permanent fasteners, e.g. bolts. As the wedge shaped abutments are adjustable, the alignment of the crystalliser relative to the ingot stool is speeded up. There is no tendency displayed by the crystalliser to tilt whilst being displaced. No jamming efforts are produced, therefore, and the wear of the internal walls of the crystalliser is minimised.</p> |
