New 1,8-naphthyridine derivs. of formula (I) and their acid addition salts are novel cpds. (where X1 and X2 ar together with the pyrro -lidine ring are isoindoline (opt. substd. by 1 or 2 halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, nitro or CF3 groups), 6,7-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo (3,4-b) pyrazine, 6,7-dihydro-5H-pyrrolo (3,4-b) pyridine or 2,3,6,7-tetrahydro-5H-oxathiinno (1,4) (2,3-c)pyrrole; Y are same or different groups chosen from H, halo, 1-4C alkyl, 1-4C alkoxy and cyano and R1,R2 are same or different H, 1-12C alkyl (opt. substd. by hydroxy, 1-4C alkoxy, phenyl; amino, mono- or di 1-4C alkylamino, a 5-6 membered N-heterocyclyl or 2-5c alkoxycarbonyl), 3-4C alkenyl, 3-4C alkynyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl or together with the N atom form a 5-6 membered heterocyclic opt. contg. an O or S atom). are tranquillisers, hypnotics, anticonvulsants, anti-epileptics and muscle relaxants.
