<p>The metal is pref. a heavy metal or alloy, esp. a eutectic alloy. In a pref. process the liquid metal is tin or one of its alloys, which is recirculated after passing through a separator to remove impurities. The washer is pref. of known venturi type and is followed by a gravity separator, the inlet and outlet pipes to which dip into liquid metal to sufficient depth to overcome the pressure difference between the gas and atmospheric. Process is for removal of S cpds., fly ash and oil clouds, eg. asphalt, from gasification products of coal or oil. Formation of a cloud of tar or oil droplets after washing with these fluids, which deposits in the equipment, is avoided. The metal can be recovered from the sulphide slag by heating.</p> |
