The water from the car radiator flows into the box (6) from the pipe (9) and out to the heater through the pipe (10). The control valve consists of a flat plate (11) mounted on a pivot (18) and actuated by a lever (20). The plate (11) has a hole (21) with a curved groove (22) cut in its under-surface. The plate (11) presses on a rubber lip (12a) surrounding a hole connected to the outlet pipe (10). As the plate (11) is rotated the groove (22) connects the hole (21) to the outlet with a very gradual increase in cross sectional area of flow. This provides very accurate control of temperature when only small quantities of heated water are necessary.
