An automatic spindle rotation stop is engaged by pressure through a compact, simple hydraulic line. A small dia. primary plunger actuates a larger operating piston. A low cam follower pressure engages the spindle stop. Fluid loss is made up from a tank via a one-way valve. A sliding head machine accepts several spindle stop plates. The cam shaft (6) cam (4) engages a follower (16), a lever (7) displacing the primary plunger (8), with screw adjustment (18). A flexible pipe (12) connects the cam control and sliding head hydraulic units. The rotating (B) spindle (1) stop plate (2) halts at a positioned latch (17) on a lever (3) positioned by a piston (10). Both units are return spring loaded (11, 9).
