The metering device for metering of the quantity of powdered fuel as a function of the power output comprises a cell rotor (14) rotating at high speed, the pockets (15) of which distributed on the circumference draw the fuel out of a reservoir (19) and deliver it to the cylinders of the internal combustion engine. By means of an adjusting arrangement (24, 26, 27) the cell rotor (14) is moved to and fro in an axial direction between a metering position, in which the delivery path (16, 17) is freed, and a shut-off position, in which the delivery path (16, 17) is closed. <IMAGE>
