1485078 Lirikwork MESSERSCHMITTBOLKOW-BLOHM GmbH 1 Sept 1975 [14 Sept 1974] 35987/75 Heading F2K A connecting link for use in vehicles or machine construction especially aircraft and spacecraft, e.g. a control rod in the steering mechanism of an aircraft, is constructed to provide two or more separate load carrying paths to provide a fail-safe connection wherein on failure of one i.e. the main load carrying path the load or force is transmitted by the, or a further, load carrying path. As shown, a metal end part 1 is adjustably screwed at 2 into a sleeve 3 at the end of a control rod 4, the metal end 1 being formed with a lug 6 for connection to the apparatus to be controlled. The primary or main load carrying path is thus effected through the metal end part 1. An additional i.e. secondary load carrying path is formed by a carbon fibre reinforced plastics material 13 which is wound longitudinally around the end part 1 in a longitudinal recess or groove 16 therein and bonded to the free end of the part 1, the windings of the plastics material 13 being carried, without sharp bends, around the threaded end of the part 1, by a plastics support 15 which seats on the inner end of part 1. The plastics material 13 is secured firmly in position against the base of the groove 16 by a circumferential winding 14 of fibre reinforced plastics material. |
