1485011 Graft polymer-polyester compositions DAICEL Ltd 11 Oct 1974 [13 Oct 1973] 44142/74 Heading C3G A resin composition consists of (A) a graft polymer obtained by the bulk suspension two stage graft polymerization of a monomeric mixture of unsubstituted or substituted vinyl aromatic monomer and unsubstituted or substituted vinyl cyanide with butadiene based rubber, said rubber in said graft polymer having an average particle size in the range of 0À5 to 2À0 microns and (B) a straight-chain saturated polyester having a number average molecular weight of from 1000 to 50,000, the amount of said polyester being in the range from 1 to 10 parts by weight, per 100 parts by weight of the graft polymer. The polyester may be incorporated during either stage of the graft polymerization, or blended with the graft polymer. Specified polyesters are condensates of a dibasic acid with a glycol, or a ring opening polyester of a cyclic lactone, or a modified polyethylene terephthalate mainly comprising terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol. Examples are given in which (a) butadiene-styrene rubber is grafted with styrene and acrylonitrile in bulk and then in suspension, a polyester derived from adipic acid and 1,2-butylene glycol being incorporated during bulk suspension and (b) butadienestyrene rubber is grafted with styreno and acrylonitrile by a bulk suspension method, the resulting graft polymer being blended with polycaprolactone. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,221,396.
