The wood chipping machine incorporates a blade shaft and an auxiliary device for changing the force-locked blades which are supported against spring-loaded pressure plates. Each blade pressure plate is pressed by a compression spring into a form-locking position with the shaft unit and against the blade and itself houses a compression spring braced against the blade's chipping face. An independently driven lever on the auxiliary device arm carries a pressure tongue to act vertically on the plate, against its spring action. This combines with the pressure batten to match the combination of flywheel cotter and pressure plate. When the pressure batten lies on the cotter, the tongue pressure face in the inactive position is at a small radial interval from the plate's open surface.
