Diaphragms for electrolytic cells are made by depositing a fibre suspension on the cathode screen and bonding the fibres together by contacting them with a fluorocarbon binder. They are esp. used as a replacement for asbestos fibres, to overcome the problem of swelling in use observed when using pure asbestos fibre diaphragms. The fibres may be e.g. of asbestos. polyalkenes, polycarbonate, polyester, polyamides, etc., esp. asbestos and are deposited in the known way, e.g. using vacuum to densify the deposit.
|
