A T-joint fillet weld is made between two steel plates by horizontal electric welding, using two electrodes with prescribed dias., which are located above and below the joint line, which is in the middle of the space between the two electrodes. The two electrodes are moved alternately, and in prescribed periods of time, towards the joint line, where one electrode is moved at one speed towards the vertical plate, and the other electrode is moved at a slower speed towards the horizontal plate. Submerged arc welding, or CO2 protective gas welding is pref., using one feed roller contg. two different grooves to vary the feed times, the two electrode wires passing through one nozzle. Used for example, in building ships or bridges, to obtain sound fillet welds without an undercut at the top of the weld on the vertical plate.
|
