The drum winch with a self-locking worm drive for a boat transporter comprises a worm which moves axially between positions engaging with and disengaged from the worm gear of which the engaged position is fixed by an axial stop. The direction winding of the cable on the drum is such that the circumferential force of the worm gear caused by the load moment biasses the worm when in the engaged position against the axial stop. The axial stop consists of a bearing for the worm shaft which is axially displaceable, which bears a hand crank lever and on which the worm is mounted rigidly.
