The groove may be formed in the surface of the shaft, e.g. by grinding, or it may be formed in an elongate strip member attached to the shaft. The strip member may be pressed into a slot in the shaft, or it may be slipped into a dovetailsectioned slot in the shaft. Alternatively, it may be bonded, brazed, or silver-soldered to the shaft. The strip member may be hardened by heat treatment before, during or after attachment to the shaft. Alternatively, the groove may be work hardened by cold forming. |
