1408969 Granular detergent composition PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 13 Nov 1973 [13 Nov 1973] 52587/73 Heading C5D A granular low-phosphate spray-dried detergent composition comprises (A) 10 to 30% wt. of a surfactant mixture consisting essentially of (1) sodium or potassium C 9 -C 20 alkyl benzene sulphonate or mixtures thereof, (ii) an alkyl ether sulphate mixture of Formula I: wherein R is C 12 to C 12 alkyl, n is an integer and M is Na or K, the average number of carbon atoms in R being 12 to 16 and the average degree of ethoxylation being 1 to 4; said mixture comprising the following percentages of compounds of Formula I: (a) 0À01 to 10% of C 12 -C 18 compounds, (b) 50 to 75% of C 14 -C 15 compounds, (c) 20 to 45% C 15 -C 17 compounds, (d) 0À05 to 10% of C 18 -C 19 compounds, the degree of ethoxylation being as follows: zero (3 to 30%), 1 to 4 (45 to 90%), 5 to 8 (10 to 25%), above 8 (0À1 to 15%); the wt. ratio of alkyl benzene sulphonate to alkyl ether sulphate being 0À1 : 1 to 6 : 1; (B) 10 to 90% wt. of an organic and/or inorganic salt which is an alkali metal silicate, an alkali metal carbonate or bicarbonate, a water-soluble alkali metal or alkaline earth metal carboxylate, sulphate or chloride, or a mixture thereof; (C) 1 to 7% wt. of water. The composition may be low-phosphate, i.e. containing 1 to 35% wt. of an alkali metal ortho- or poly-phosphate, or non- phosphate. Non-phosphate compositions comprise by wt. of component (B), 40 to 65% of alkali metal carbonate, 35 to 60% of alkali metal silicate and 1 to 10% of sodium acetate, potassium acetate, alkali metal sulphosuccinate or magnesium sulphate; alternatively, (B) may be 50 to 75% of an alkali metal citrate, 10 to 30% of an alkali metal bicarbonate and 5 to 12% of trisodium sulphosuccinate.
