<p>A packing seal for closing the space between a rotating shaft and a stationary machine part is described. A ring is located in an annular slot formed in one of the shaft or machine parts. The ring is tensioned radially on the rotating or on the non-rotating part and axially spaced from the frontal faces of the slot so that a fluid media can be located therebetween. At least one face of the ring has a plurality of arcuate grooves by which the pressure of the fluid medium between the ring and the opposing frontal face of the slot is generated on rotation of said shaft.</p> |
