<p>1449686 Disazo pigments SANDOZ Ltd 11 Dec 1973 [12 Dec 1972 18 Jan 1973] 57386/73 Heading C4P Novel disazo compounds of the formula (wherein A is 1,4- or 1,5-naphthylene optionally substituted by up to 2 substituents selected from Cl, Br, CH 3 , NO 2 , OCH 3 and CN; each R 1 is independently halogen or NO 2 ; and each R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 5 is independently H, halogen or C 2-5 alkoxycarbonyl; but with the provisos that (a) each benzene nucleus bears 2 substituents; (b) each benzene nucleus bears no more than 1 alkoxycarbonyl group; and (c) when any R 1 is NO 2 then the R 4 on the same benzene nucleus is H or alkoxycarbonyl) are prepared by coupling appropriate diamides with appropriate diazotized anilines or by condensing diamines H 2 N-A-NH 2 with appropriate dicarboxylic acids (prepared by conventional diazotization and coupling and subsequently, for example, converted to the corresponding acid chlorides) or their functional derivatives. They are useful as pigments for the pigmentation of plastics in the mass, in surface coatings and lacquers, in printing inks and for dyeing paper in the stock and for coating or printing textiles.</p> |
