A hydraulically telescopic link in the mechanism of a dough dividing machine of the type using a transfer piston to draw dough from a supply hopper and then compress it into a measuring cylinder. The link comprises a hydraulic piston and cylinder assembly linked at one end to a rocker bar driving the transfer piston and at the other end to a driving crank. The hydraulic piston divides its cylinder into two chambers each connected with a common reservoir into which fluid must pass if the piston is to move in the cylinder. Pressure exerted on the dough in the transfer cylinder is limited by allowing hydraulic fluid to pass into the reservoir via an adjustable pressure relief device, e.g. spring-loaded valve. Device is used in drive mechanism for dough dividing machine for bread bakeries. Quality and weight control are improved by limiting the pressure which the transfer piston can exert on the dough.
