The drive mechanism for operating a conveyor belt of an agricultural implement consists of a ratchet arrangement fixed to the shaft of the conveyor belt. The ratchet wheel is driven by two ratchets fixed to to-and-fro moving rocker arms. One ratchet is driven by a chain, and the other ratchet by a piston rod. The other ratchet can be brought manually in and out of contact to couple one end of the chain and piston rod together. The contact area of the ratchets with the drive cogs can be altered by means of a pull-cable or by a linkage with the discharge roller. A control pulley serves to alter the contact area of one ratchet. A rocker arm adjust that of the other ratchet.
