<p>The open fireplace (2) for domestic heating has a front hearth kerb (7) and a chimney breast (15) above it. A collapsible plate (1) is provided which can be put in the fireplace at a slant across the fire. It is made from three sections (3, 45) which are hinged together to pivot in one direction only. The bottom section (5) has support lugs (6) by which it is propped against the hearth kerb (7) and which leave a passage for combustion air under the plate. The upper section (3) has handles (8) by which the plate can be moved with tongs when it is hot. The upper section leaves a gap through which smoke can pass into the chimney.</p> |
