New modification of 2:6-dibenzoylamino-3:7-diethoxy-9:10-diacetylamino-triphendioxazine and processes for its manufacture and use

Lacquers of acetylcellulose and nitrocellulose, polymerization resins and condensation resins are pigmented with the b -modification of 2,6-dibenzoylamino - 3,7 - diethoxy - 9,10 - di-acetylamino-triphendioxazine (see Division C4). Specified polymerization resins are polyolefins including polyvinylchloride and polyacrylonitrile. Specified condensation resins are alkyd resins. Examples are given in which polyvinyl chloride, acetyl cellulose, nitrocellulose, an alkyd-melamine stoving lacquer, polyethylene, isotactic polypropylene and polystyrene are pigmented.ALSO:The invention comprises a new red-violet crystal form (the "b -modification") of 2,6-benzoylamino - 3,7 - diethoxy - 9,10 - diacetylamino-triphendioxazine of the formula It may be obtained by heating 2,5-acetylamino-3,6 - di - (21,51 - diethoxy - 41 - benzoylamino-phenylamino) - 1,4 - benzoquinone for a prolonged period above 150 DEG C. in nitrobenzene in the presence of an additive consisting of a base and/or water, or the b -modification itself, or by heating a 2,6-dibenzoylamino-3,7-diethoxy-9,10-diacetylamino - triphendioxazine (which has been obtained by cyclising 2,5-diacetylamino-3,6 - di - (21,51 - diethoxy - 41 - benzoylamino-phenylamino) - 1,4 - benzoquinone in nitrobenzene) for at least 6 hours at a temperature above 160 DEG C. in nitrobenzene. Examples are given for the production of this b -modification. It may be used for dyeing rayon, viscose, cellulose ethers or esters, polyamides, polyurethanes or polyesters, or in the manufacture of coloured lacquers or lake formers, solutions or products of acetylcellulose, nitrocellulose, and natural or synthetic resins.ALSO:Rayon, viscose, cellulose ethers or esters, polyamides, polyurethanes and polyesters are dyed with the b -modification of 2,6-dibenzoyalmino - 3,7 diethoxy - 9,10 - diacetylaminotriphendioxazine (see Division C4) In Examples 12 and 13 cotton and other natural and regenerated cellulose fibres are dyed. Decorative paper is obtained by disintegrating bleached cellulose containing a filler (zinc sulphide or titanium dioxide) in a hollander with water, mixing the pulp with a pigment suspension containing the dioxazine derivative as active colouring ingredient, fixing the pigment, by adding aluminium sulphate, impregnating the paper with an aqueous dimethylol melamine solution, pressing and drying the paper at 100 DEG C.
