1484493 Desulphurizing char OCCIDENTAL PETROLEUM CORP 19 Sept 1974 [27 Sept 1973] 40930/74 Heading C1A Char is desulphurized by forming a molten bath, basic in its reaction to litmus, of a thermally stable weakly acidic organic acid and an alkali and thence bringing the char into intimate contact with the molten bath for a time sufficient to leach the sulphur from the char, e.g. from 2 to 60 minutes, followed by separating the desulphurized char from the molten bath. A polyphenyl ether may be added to the bath to effect suitable contact between the char and the bath mixture. A molten bath of cresylic acid in admixture with a caustic alkali is preferably utilized.
|
