The rhythm generator is used to reproduce the rhythm of a piece of music, to provide an optical, acoustic or electrical outputs signal and stores coded data representing the durations of the notes and/or the pauses. The stored data also contains the number of control or clock pulses within a given time frame, to provide the speed of the piece of music represented by the durations of the notes and/or pauses. A variation in tempo can be provided by varying the frequency of the pulse generator, or by varying the number of pulses for each reference time frame.
