Joint flanges for pipes - in which annular projection of one flange matches groove of mating flange

The joint flange (1) is made of a relatively thick disc (5) from which a tubular extension (3) is formed by deep drawing. The extension (3) is then butt-welded to the end of the pipe. An annular groove (6) of rectangular cross-section is machined in the face of the flange (5). A second similar flange is provided with a circular projection (7) which matches the groove (6). A sealing ring is fitted in the groove (6) and the pair of flanges are clamped together by a pair of rings (4).
