1513650 Clamps RESEARCH CORP 22 Dec 1976 [26 Jan 1976] 53500/76 Heading E2B A surgical clip for occluding tubes in a living animal comprises first 14 and second 12 jaw members, the first jaw member having two side flanges 50, 52, Figure 2, and a recess 54, Figure 1, extending between the flanges, the recess having a uniform arcuate crosssection in a direction perpendicular to the flanges, the flanges having bores 56 therethrough, the second jaw member being received between the flanges and having an arcuate bearing portion 60 and a journalling arrangement, preferably comprising a bore, a pivot pin 18 passing through the bores, and a generally U-shaped spring member 16 engaging remote major surfaces of each jaw member and being slidable from a first position where it urges the jaw members open and a second position where it urges the jaw members together. The bridge portion 21 of the spring member in conjunction with the side flanges provides a smoothly contoured hinge end thereby reducing to a minimum zones for the entrapment of tissue. The jaw members are each provided with projections 20a, b, c, d, 26a, b, c, d, which cooperate with bores in the opposite member when the jaw members are closed. The ends of legs 17, 19 of the spring member have turned-in portions 46, 48 which in the second position are received in slots 40, 36 in the jaw members. The legs 17, 19 slide in grooves 30, 38 in the jaw members. The jaw members are preferably made of polycarbonate. |
