1536171 Supported catalyst components for olefine polymerization MONTEDISON SpA 17 Sept 1976 [18 Sept 1975] 38668/76 Heading C3P [Also in Division B1] A supported catalyst component for polymerizing olefines into spheroidal polymer particles is the reaction product of (a) a Ti-halogen compound and (b) spherical particles of 10-70 microns diameter of a hydrated Mg chloride containing 10 to 45% by weight of water prepared by partial dehydration of a hydrated Mg chloride made by reaction of electrolytic Mg and HCl and subsequent fractional crystallization, the component having a surface area of 10 to 70 m.2/g. and a mean pore radius of 30 to 150 Š. Examples describe polymerization of ethylene or propylene in the presence of hydrogen or propylene alone using a catalyst comprising triisobutyl aluminium or a mixture of paraethylanisate and triethylaluminium and said component prepared from TiCl 4 and partially hydrated MgCl 2 4H 2 O.
