Appts. for curing resin coatings applied to long thin profiles comprises a (wide), shallow enclosure through which the profile can pass while being subjected to thermal radiation, and surrounded by an inert gas stream sweeping the chamber transverse to the profile path. The enclosure walls are transparent to the radiation which is emitted from an external element, pref. backed by reflective screens. Used esp. for curing clear or pigmented coatings of e.g. polyester or acrylic resin previously applied to filaments, cables, hose, etc. Appts. is effective at throughput rates of up to 800-1000 m./min. for each coated profile. The inert atmos. allows use of rapid, high heating without inhibition or degradation by oxidn. |
