The axial position of gearwheels in a transmission system is controlled by the design of the coupling. A chain wheel (13), which transmits power to the final drive shaft, is mounted on the same shaft (3) as a gearwheel (12), which is itself driven by an engine. Thrust washers (2A, 2B) are placed between the wheels and casing. The chain wheel and gearwheel are coupled by tapered yokes (22A, 22B) which not only transmit the power, but also exert an axial force which maintains the wheels in position against the thrust washers.
|
